Davina Graves, known as Peanut

Davina was loving wife to Trevor Graves, Kind sister to Duncan and Clinton Friend. Caring mother to Hannah and Larisa and fun nanny to Elsie-May and Savannah- Lilly. Davina was a loving, caring and generous person. Very homely, she loved the simple things in life. Her family was everything to her, and she would do anything for them. Davina brought calmness to the family and was the glue that held everything together. She made sure everyone was happy and had what they wanted before even thinking about herself. She was not a selfish person and enjoyed seeing others happy. This is what she lived for. Davina had a lovely family upbringing and was the eldest child of three, older sister to Duncan and Clinton, who used to wind her up when she was growing up but she loved them dearly, even if she did once accidentally pour boiling water over Clinton’s arm. Davina enjoyed school and was very athletic. She ran in the county trials for both junior and senior schools and did ballet and tap dance with her best friend Loraine. Davina also saved up for a Cruise by doing a paper round but it turned out she suffered from sea sickness and was ill even before they left port. Davina worked at the Speedway stadium on the kiosk some evenings and then when she left school she worked as a receptionist at Scrutton & Goodchild. She then got a job at Lloyds Bank where she worked with Loraine. This is also where she met Trevor and they started courting in 1972. After a Holbrook and Gippeswyk Sunday League football match a group of Trevor’s friends went to the Bakers Arms in Harkstead. Davina went along and got a little tipsy, she went up to Trevor and said she felt unwell, concerned he asked her how many drinks she had, to which she replied 11 vodkas. Trevor took her outside in his car where she was sick over his car mats. It was at this point Trevor said to Davina that he wanted to take care of her forever, and the rest is history. Davina and Trevor enjoyed many holidays together and married on the 9th August 1975 at All Saints Church. They bought their first house together in 1976 in Carlyle Close and then moved to Creeting St Mary in 1980. Davina longed for children. This took a while but her dream finally came true in 1986 when she had Hannah and then Larisa followed in 1988. At last she had two daughters to call her own. Hannah and Larisa had a great upbringing. They didn’t get everything they wanted, as money was tight but they definitely had lots of love and laughter from both Davina and Trevor and this was more precious to them than anything money could buy. They felt extremely blessed and grateful for that. Davina loved being at home and having the family around her. She would never keep still and was always making tea, cooking, cleaning and baking. The family remembers she was always ironing and dancing and singing around the kitchen to the radio. She loved her music. She got caught many times by her daughters, dancing and singing when she thought no one was watching. When mobile phones and Facebook became popular they would video her when she thought no one was watching and thenpost it on the internet (against her will!) for others to view and enjoy. If Hannah and Larisa had any men troubles mum would always be there and be their shoulder to cry on, make them cups of tea, offer chocolate or cakes, a shopping spree on the credit card ( what she called the ‘never never card’ because it would take time to pay off). In Larisa’s case she would take her abroad to get over a break up. Any excuse for a holiday! Davina loved holidays with the family. They all had great times in the Isle of White, Cornwall, Dorset and later on when Hannah and Larisa were a bit older they enjoyed many holidays in Nerja Spain. Davina loved Burriana Beach soaking up the sun, reading a book, listening to the sea and visiting Rockys Bar. In the evenings they would go out for family meals and try the local food, a favourite was Ayos for a Paella. Davina would always get quite tipsy on sangria, normally just one glass would do it, and her lips would go numb, then she would get the giggles. This made the walk back to the apartment very entertaining indeed. Davina was not only close to her own family but also to Trevor’s. She was a great comfort to her brother in law Stephen when he sadly lost his wife Linda in 2008. Her and Linda often got mistaken for sisters. Something they often laughed about. Davina became a Nanny to Elsie-May in August 2012 and Savannah-Lilly in 2013. In the short time she had with them she taught them a lot and loved them dearly. Davina said it is such a special love between a nanny and her grandchildren, a love that will last forever. Davina will be missed very much by all her friends and family and she will be forever in their hearts.
